Brete Martin has been teaching movement for over 30 years. She is a graduate of The San Francisco Ballet School. Brete has choreographed, performed, and taught for regional companies includin Utah State University, San Francisco State University, Young Artists Ballet Theatre, Peninsula Ballet Theatre, and Western Ballet.

Brete became interested in Pilates after taking group mat classes at the
YMCA. She found relief from a decades-old back injury and was able to
increase the range of motion and strengthen the injury site. Brete was so inspired by the benefits of Pilates she obtained mat certification with the idea of working with her students at Professional Ballet School in Belmont to increase flexibility and strengthen their bodies to prevent injuries.

In 2007, Brete decided to further her knowledge of the Pilates method by attending a Pilates conference where she had the privilege of taking a mat class taught by Rael Isacowitz. The principals and practices of the BASI method dovetailed with Brete's education and experience in the field of movement.

She brings an attitude of compassionate understanding of individual bodies' needs cultivated through her many years of teaching movement for individuals of all body types and injuries.

Brete is completing her comprehensive Pilates certification in the Body Arts and Science InternationalT Pilates Method with Larry Hall at The Center Studio, and is responsible for spearheading the Peninsula Family YMCA Pilates studio program.
