The Program
Body Arts and
Science International (BASI™) is a comprehensive certification
program developed by Rael
Isacowitz, M.A., an internationally recognized expert in the
Pilates method. The program integrates the original work and philosophies
of Joseph Pilates with contemporary scientific knowledge, and ensures
that students will emerge with a deep understanding of the Pilates
method and application repertoire. The program is comprised of formal
lectures, personal practice, observation, student teaching, a dissertation,
and a complete examination process. The Center Studio is proud to
offer this level of training in our studio.
Courses Offered
Mat Work Teacher Training: provides a strong foundation of the Mat Work repertoire based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates.
Comprehensive Teacher Training: prepares students and seasoned professionals alike to refine their skills and teaching methodology on all of the apparatus.
Advanced Educator Program: provides in-depth training and education in movement analysis and in the advanced and master-level Pilates repertoire.
Post Graduate Program: offers continuing education for those who wish to specialize or increase the breadth of their skills with select populations.
Subjects Covered
- The principles, approach, history and development of the Pilates method and BASI™.
- The complete movement repertoire of Joseph Pilates on all the equipment (according to the corresponding course).
- Anatomy and exercise physiology including muscle function and biomechanics relating to the Pilates method.
- The Block System™ of exercise sequencing.
- The principles of posture and postural analysis.
- Movement analysis and muscle recruitments patterns.
- Comprehensive programming and teaching methodology.
- Addressing special populations, including: pregnant women, children, the elderly, dancers, athletes, and those with spinal care and rehabilitation issues.
Teaching Staff
The faculty for BASI™ courses is considered the finest in
the industry, and certification requires a rigorous approval process.
BASI™ founder Real Isacowitz oversees the program at The Center Studio,
while Larry Hall serves as program administrator and teacher along
with several other highly-qualified guest instructors.
