Pilates
What is Pilates?
The Pilates Method is a form of muscular conditioning that focuses on the body's core strength – the muscles closest to the spine, deepest to the rib cage and deep inside the pelvic floor. By working these core muscles, Pilates brings the body into balance and promotes good posture. It is efficient, sustainable and restorative. Pilates focuses on total mind-body integration, so that practitioners are mindful of each move. Pilates’ founder, Joseph Pilates, asserted that “It is the mind that shapes the body.”
What can it do for me?
Pilates is perfect for adults of all ages and all levels of fitness. Ideally, it can prevent injury and damage caused by daily life activities – including other forms of exercise – that stress the body.
Pilates is an efficient way to develop and maintain fitness. Less time is required for greater, more healthful results, and the underlying philosophies are transferable throughout your life.
Pilates is ideal for the athlete seeking to improve performance, coordination and balance. It is also an excellent way to recover from injury or cope with physical limitation. Training programs are tailored to address your specific needs and goals.
What are those things?
Pilates is performed on unique equipment designed to provide support, resistance and precision, all under the watchful guidance of your instructor. The reformer, the Wunda chair and the cadillac enable you to isolate specific muscle groups. As well, Pilates has a strong floorwork component.
