Comprehensive Teacher Training
Become a certified Pilates Instructor through the Center Studio's comprehensive Instructor Training Program.
This in-depth program of study provides both an academic and practical knowledge
into The Pilates Method. We offer rigorous training on the full range of Pilates
apparatus and an extensive apprenticeship program.
The Comprehensive Program includes:
• Academic Study – twelve modules including lectures, presentation of papers
and case histories
• Personal Study - required after each module. Most students organize study
groups to review and discuss material
• Practical Work - including sessions on the apparatus,
Mat Work classes and workshops. As much practical experience as
possible is encouraged. (Sessions and Mat Work classes are highly
recommended and are offered at a student rate. In addition there is “open
studio time” whereby students can practice on their own or in groups)
• Observation - Up to 150** hours at the Host location or an Affiliate studio
• Apprentice Teaching – Upon successful completion of the Mid-Term exam you
will be issued a certificate to be an Apprentice Instructor.
Prerequisites:
Familiarity with the teachings of Joseph Pilates
75 hours of instruction in the pilates method
Study in basic anatomy and physiology
To be accepted into the course there will be an Anatomy Quiz which covers very basic human anatomy and a practical to show familiarity with the exercises.
It is highly recommended to have familiarity and experience in Pilates, both Mat
Work and on the apparatus, before enrolling in the course. You will be asked to perform several exercises which will demonstrate knowledge of the exercises. If you are familiar with the exercises we can focus the course in learning how to teach the exercises to clients as well as exercise breakdown.
• Although it is recommended that this be a college level course, it is also
acceptable if it is part of another area of study such as a massage therapy,
physical therapy or some other similar program
• Experience in a related form of physical activity
• Over the years it has become apparent that experience in other physical
activities is extremely beneficial. This allows the student to relate and
compare the work to past movement experience
• Teaching experience is recommended
• Teaching is a learned skill, an art and a natural talent. Any past teaching
experience, even in an unrelated area will contribute to the process of
becoming a teacher of the Pilates method.

Final Exam
The course takes place over a 6 month period of comprehensive study and
encompasses approximately 500 hours of study. However, the process of becoming a
skilled teacher is individual and there is no time limit on completing the certification
itself. We encourage each individual to work at his or her own pace and to integrate
the work and knowledge into their own body. We pride ourselves on the personal
relationship we establish with each student. Since our goal is to help shape and
develop excellence in all our graduates, students will be allowed to repeat any
element of the examination process to achieve the required standard.
